Daunte the Lion

Daunte Culpepper signed a two year contract with the Detroit Lions.

I guess the big question is do I care?

If you read my personal blog at all you may have noticed that I went to the University of Central Florida. In fact, Daunte and I overlapped by one year. He was a freshman when I was a senior.

And now anybody that can do math knows how old I am. Excellent.

So the thing is I have been a huge Culpepper fan from way back. Coming from a school that had a relatively small football program at the time it was thrilling when Culpepper was drafted in the first round. I remember him playing in his first pre-season game with the Vikings. I actually used to root for the Vikings when they weren’t playing the Bucs just to root for Daunte. He was amazing. He was big and had a great arm and he could scramble with the best of them.

But then he started getting bad press and playing inconsistently. Then came the injuries. Then he ended up with the Dolphins and it just wasn’t any fun watching him play anymore.

So do I care that he was picked up by Detroit? Kind of. I guess. I want to be excited, but I’m not. Do Lions fans care? Do you care?
