It was announced, Wednesday, that rugby union will be added as a competitive sport at the Pan-American Games, starting in 2011, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
This is huge news considering the recent upset over the fact that rugby was rejected by the International Olympic Committee just a few years ago.
Jacques Rogge,President of the International Olympic Committee said the addition of rugby union to the Pan-American Games potentially opens the doors for the sport in a future Olympics. Rogge told the Associated Press that such a move “Is closer than ever.”
