Allow us to be the first to welcome you to the bittersweet week of championship football.
And yes, it’s bittersweet … because while we love championship games, this week also brings to a close all of the things we love about the college football season. Like mid-week MACtion. And 17 consecutive hours of football on Saturdays. And debating playoff rankings.
But, here we are. So while Crappy and I briefly … erm, very briefly … discuss the official MAC title game and unofficial Big 12 title game, we dive deeper into the four games that we and the playoff committee will be keeping a close eye on. And get ready early this week; the first big game is Friday night.
Pac-12 Title Game: Colorado vs. Washington — Colorado is arguably one of the best Cinderella stories we’ve had in college football in a while … and enters this game with absolutely nothing to lose. Washington, meanwhile, needs a win to (likely) secure a berth in the playoff. Don’t miss this one Friday.
SEC Title Game: Florida vs. Alabama — OK, so maybe we didn’t dive that deeply into this game. Roll Tide.
ACC Title Game: Clemson vs. Virginia Tech — On paper, this looks like a sure win for Clemson. Which is exactly why you should pay close attention to this one. Clemsoning is a verb for a reason … and the Hokies would sure love to be that reason on Saturday.
Big Ten Title Game: Penn State vs. Wisconsin — Admittedly, this is the one we’re both a bit more amped for, but it also has the potential to be the best game of the weekend. These teams are very evenly matched … if only the game were played OUTDOORS. (Ahem. Sorry.)
So, for the final time this year … enjoy the football. Raise your glasses to another great season. And wait with anticipation as we head into the most wonderful time of the year … BOWL SEASON.
