Will the Broncos Keep McDaniels?

Two stories are headlining in Denver this week about the Broncos: Spygate II and McDaniels job being on the chopping block. Obviously related, these speak volumes about the unrest in Denver these days and Broncos fans are ruthless when it comes to their team.

While the NFL just wants it to go away, Spygate II, or Little Spygate, or Dumbass Did It Again-Gate, is not going away. Reports say: 1) Steve Scarnecchia acted alone taping the 49ers in London, 2) McDaniels knew nothing, until, well, yes, he kind of knew but since he didn’t look at the tape then there was no reason to tell anyone, 3) The Broncos won’t be punished unless there is more information that comes out then maybe they’ll get punished if the moon is in retrograde and turns blue and orange. (OK, maybe I made up that last part….)

Here’s the deal, Broncos: You hired a cheat. You allowed him to hire another cheat. They got caught seemingly early in the game. There should be consequences. Scarnecchia should never be allowed in an NFL back room again. Any questions?

But where does that leave McDaniels?

If you listen to the increasingly loud fans, McDaniels should be on the next bus to Oswego, swapping stories with Wade Phillips and Brad Childress. Broncos fans do not take lightly to losing records and have no problem putting pressure on the owners to make changes. Whether Pat Bowlen listens is another story. It’s reported that McDaniels’ is safe until the end of the season and Bowlen does not necessarily want to make a coaching change after that. Let’s see how he feels if the Broncos lose the rest of their games, shall we?

Names are even being thrown around as to who can save the Broncos. If you read Woody Paige you might be thinking John Elway. Could he save the same team twice? Maybe, but there is a lot of housekeeping to do before he can hire a decorator. The place has been trashed.

Kendra wants to see the Broncos win again. She’s not holding her breath for this season, though.

About the author
Kendra, or Headless Mom as she's known around the interwebs, has been a sports fan for as long as she can remember and comes by it honestly. Her grandmother was never far from her tv or radio with the play-by-play on, and her mother seems to prefer sports talk radio to cooking dinner. Kendra loves football the most, but certainly has an opinion about (almost) all sports out there. She loved tennis until her (fake) husband, Boris Becker, retired. Getting cable so she could watch ESPN was the only condition that she had before moving in with her current (and only real) husband, Headless Dad. He is currently a Golf Channel addict. Their three Headless children are currently being brainwashed by their mother to hail all things gridiron. She also writes about her life at The Adventures of the Headless Family.

One can only hope there is change ahead for the Broncos. Until then, J-E-T-S in the AFC…

  2. Headless Mom says:

Agreed, because God knows there’s no one in the AFC west that I can root for.

  3. I hear Gruden is interviewing again. :)

    And what about The Ravens?

  4. Headless Mom says:

Please don’t let Gruden go to Denver. Pretty please with a cherry on top? Oy, I don’t think I could handle that.
