Tiki Barber Ruins Everything

Sometimes I secretly love it when an athlete that I don’t like, or someone who plays for a team I hate gets caught up in a scandal, but it breaks my heart when one of my heroes pulls one of these asshole stunts.

Homewreckers: Tiki Barber and Traci Lynn Johnson

Homewreckers: Tiki Barber and Traci Lynn Johnson

Yeah, I’m talking to you Tiki.

Tiki Barber left his wife, who is 8 months pregnant with twins, for a 23 year old blonde chick.

Seriously, Tiki? I loved you. I thought you and your brother (your twin brother, you jerk) were above the Kobe Bryants and the Tiger Woods and the Steve McNairs (and  you know what happened to that guy) and the Michael Jordans… I really could go on and on, but it is too depressing.

I think Tina Fey Said it best:

The thing is that we have all seen the stories about Tiki and Ronde’s single mother. We’ve read Tiki’s autobiography about how his mother raised her twins all by herself and how difficult it was for her and how hard she had to work. (Okay, I read the autobiography,  maybe you people spared yourself that grammatical train wreck.)

Tiki, it isn’t just your fans you have disappointed, it isn’t just your pregnant wife, it isn’t just “The Today Show”, you have let down your mother.

Plus, you look like a dick in the middle of a very public midlife crisis.

Couldn’t you have just gone out and bought a Corvette like the rest of them?

What I love about sports is the ability to have a hero. A good guy.

When a good guy turns out to be a first rate ass, it’s depressing.

  2. Headless Mom says:

God I hate it when a seemingly normal guy, that seems to have his priorities right goes and pulls this bullshit.

Could someone please find me a cool sports guy that I can show my boys as one to emulate? One that doesn’t screw around? Oh, it’s looking like it’s Phil Mickelson.

  3. I completely AGREE!! he is a total ass and I hope karma comes to him someday!

  4. It’s just so distressing, depressing, disgusting. Here’s a guy who seems to have had “overcome” what would have been really difficult circumstances growing up. His whole image is nice guy, works hard for his successes, stand-up citizen.

And then he has to go and be the biggest jackhole around.

It won’t make up for a second of the abandonment and the humiliation, but I hope his wife takes him for all he’s worth.

  5. Laurie says:

Hey, maybe he just needed to be with someone who would meet his needs of sitting in airports not talking and looking at cell phones. Who is some lady – er, pregnant wife – to get in the way of that kind of joy?

Never trust anyone named “Tiki”. I learned that the hard way once.

I will always remember the day when Michael Jordan’s infidelity became public and TRUE. Because I never believed it. I REFUSED to believe it. It broke my heart.

A friend of a friend dated Tiki in college. She’s even mentioned in his book. This chick just recently got married to a good guy and I’m pretty sure she dodged this bullet!

I will say, though, that after working in sports, there are good guys out there. They are few and far between, but there are guys who love their wives and children and don’t stray.

Anyone who spends so much time perfecting anything is a hard bargain for a married partner. This means anyone – not just athletes. To be really good – you have to believe in yourself when others won’t and you have to give enormous time to your gig. I have met VERY few well adjusted or even well rounded top-of-their-game type men or women. It is heartbreaking that his children are involved and that his wife has to be alone at this crucial time but without a doubt – he is surely struggling too. This is not a sound byte situation any more than another person’s infidelity would be.

As for the blonde. She knew he was married but at 23 it is doubtful she really understands what that means. No excuses – clearly he is all the superficial things – gorgeous, wealthy, bright and generous. But now they will all have to figure out the realities of such a betrayal. Sadly, with the Internet, this will always be ‘out there’ and that will be hardest for the kids.

I feel so bad for his ex and his unborn babies. He didn’t break they cycle. Those kids are going to have a hard time growing up without their daddy and let’s face it, it’s going to be hard for their mom to get a date for a while. Especially because she has twin babies to take care of.

    Disappointing to say the least.

  10. Tiki torched his life and his world has gone up in smoke. Not sure how much longer he can walk around with his own head so far up his ass.
