About the author
Laurie won her first writing award at her Maryland Catholic elementary school - an envelope of two-dollar bills from football-crazy nuns - in the second grade for a poem about the Washington Redskins. She still does not understand downs, so this just proves that she will write just about anything for the promise of money and minor glory. Try her. Her other interests include the WNBA, Dayton basketball (Go Flyers!,) tailgating, Capitals first-period goals, three-pointers and beer. She dislikes any former Patrick Division team, (especially the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers) overtime any time and serial retirers. She will someday have Capitals season tickets, attend an NFL game, and understand downs. Other writing happens at LaurieWrites and BlogHer. She still lives in - and loves - Maryland.

Great post. I am stupidly competitive – at things like Scattergories, because I have never played organized sports, which is probably a good thing given the histrionics I can go through watching the Washington Capitals play a hockey game.

And not only did I scream at my tv while playing Rhythm Parade last week (the controller is inconsistent, rendering SO many of my “perfects” as just “okays” or whatever the word is they use for total failure. Robbed!) I had to shut off the game where you navigate yourself down a river in a balloon for the same reason. Robbed!

So I get it. But I have to admit that I do at least like the concept of everyone being tied, except for a few rival hockey teams who I like to envision in the scoring hole before anything really starts. ;)

I have to side with Josh here. Winning isn’t everything, but it is damn close.

Really, why bother competing if you aren’t trying to win. Otherwide it would just be like jogging, right?

I feel so validated in my pre-adolescent rage. You guys are the best!!!!!!
