Damn. I missed it.
No, I don’t think we need mics on the field. This also coming from the girl that thinks that stores should actually be closed on holidays and that coaches should still wear suits and ties. Yep, just call me Grandma.
I’m with you you suited coaches. Belichick looks so ridiculous in his cut off hoodie that he’d look more dignified wearing a snuggie. Last night we noticed the Giants and their coaching staff didn’t even have their colors coordinated. The staff was wearing Detroit colors. What’s up with that?
Tom Landry and Dan Reeves should be cast in a new reality series called “Sideline Swoop” where they ambush unsuspecting fashion backward coaches and make them over in Armani.
I’m totally fine with coaches not wearing suits (hockey still does it, it makes more sense to me inside, maybe? Or maybe I just think hockey is awesome and I don’t care.
) but I don’t especially like the mics. I don’t want to hear Gary Williams or Brenda Frees talk plays with the Maryland basketball players, not really. I can see it happening, I just don’t know…
I don’t like the sadness when people lose (UNLESS it’s the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Philadelphia Flyers. Or, um…Duke or Carolina basketball. Televise it! I’ll watch! I have no NHL or NCAA shame.) but I don’t have a problem with it being televised in general because it’s the way things are. I think it’s good to see investment in competition and what happens on both sides of the coin when it’s over. I DON’T like repeatedly watching people get injured, though, because that’s upsetting to me.
The worst thing about the reality tv production era and its spillover into pro sports in my opinion is that there is nothing left to the imagination, though. I also think expecting a coach not to swear is kind of silly, so if anyone is complaining about that (I haven’t read anything about this yet besides this) then maybe a reality check is in order. I’m not saying you are – it’s more about your reaction to it – but just in general.

I’m not saying the coach was wrong for swearing, Hell I swear. In fact I just did, damn it. I haven’t read that anyone was shocked by it. I’m more along the lines of why the hell do I have to hear or see everything just becuase the technology exists to do so? I’m not opposed to the camera’s panning on the losing teams, I agree it’s part of the game, the whole “win some, lose some” thing. I just hate seeing those big guys crying on all the networks in the post game wrapups. I suppose I am as uncomfortable seeing their tears, as you are uncomfortable with the physical injuries being replayed, even if the tears are being shed by someone who earns far more money losing a game than I am able to earn in an entire year, okay that’s not true. More like ten years. But I digress…
I’m fine with the swearing, agree with you about the overlap into sports from reality TV, but I am not backing down on my hope the dress code will some day return. : )
