Precisely for the reasons that you mentioned. The payrolls are out of control in my opinion. Does anyone really care about a bunch of overgrown boys that make insane amounts of money for playing a game? Interestingly enough, my son did a report on Yogi Berra this week. Back then the players had 'day jobs' and a signing bonus was $500, if you were lucky enough to get one. Yogi worked in a factory in the off season. I would think that that kind of life would make the players want it even more, versus taking the off-season off and lounging on a beach somewhere. Just my opinion, though.
