Eagles Sign Vick

So I came out of the gym and I was scrolling through Twitter and there it was, courtesy of Ashton Kutcher first, of all people: “Vick goes to Eagles. Weird.” (And no I don’t know why I still follow him. He’s pretty quiet these days anyway.)

Reps for the Philadelphia Eagles and Michael Vick confirmed today that the team signed him to a two-year contract. It’s reported that he will back up starter Donovan McNabb.

So it wasn’t Oakland, or Green Bay or Baltimore, a few of the teams kicked around as possibilities since it was announced late last month that the NFL conditionally reinstated Vick, giving him the option to return by the sixth game of the season. Debate had raged over where – if anywhere – he would end up. If Philly was floated as a possibility, it was quiet, and even the city’s sport writers, like Inquirer columnist John Gonzalez, seem surprised.

Dave Spadaro says on the Eagles own On the Inside blog, “Yes It’s True! Vick is an Eagle,” spinning it as “exciting, thrilling, shocking.”

Tonight, the Eagles played their pre-season opener against the Patriots while the Internet went berserk as it often will over their the team’s newest player. Fan and observer response, online anyway, is a mixed bag so far, anywhere from “I’m distraught and betrayed” to “who cares.” The team will hold a press conference Friday to officially announce the deal, and Vick, who will apparently be everywhere all the time forever, or at least until the next thing happens, will be on 60 Minutes Sunday as well, to likely further rehash the poor choices that landed him in prison and his future in football.

She still does not understand downs, so this just proves that she will write just about anything for the promise of money and minor glory. Try her. Her other interests include the WNBA, Dayton basketball (Go Flyers!,) tailgating, Capitals first-period goals, three-pointers and beer. She dislikes any former Patrick Division team, (especially the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers) overtime any time and serial retirers. Seriously, get comfy – this is really going to be REALLY entertaining or boring.

If it’s boring – we’ll refer back the Reggie Miller nuttiness for entertainment.

I’m just glad that some of my more favorite teams didn’t take him. I may or may not watch on Sunday but it should be interesting. Especially since Tony Dungy has been ‘mentoring’ him. We’ll see…
