A Tie? A TIE?

Much like Donovan McNabb, I didn’t even know there were ties in the NFL.

There shouldn’t be ties in football.

It totally screws up my football pool.

But there it was. after one measly overtime. Philadelphia 13, Cincinnati 13.

Okay, so maybe NO ties in football is an overstatement but doesn’t it seem like with a league minimum salary of $285,000 a year and tickets up in the nosebleed sections at $85 per person I think the NFL owes us at least two overtimes.

Or maybe I am just bitter because I am the only one out of 42 people in my pick ‘em pool that picked the Bengals. It could have been a freaking coup.

And the $85 I would have won would have covered… you guessed it.

The Problem with Thursday Night Football

I don’t want to get too harsh here. I love the NFL Network. I love having something to watch on Thursday nights. I love the extra day of football goodness, but I have a beef to pick.

The problem with Thursday Night Football is as follows:

Crap. I though you would be able to see it better. The problem is this: on Thursday it looked like Ben Roethlisberger was questionable – doubtful even. So I quickly and strategically (and I mean sent a begging e-mail to my commissioner begging to do an add/drop on a Thursday morning) picked up Byron Leftwich and set him up to play.

By Sunday it was obvious that Big Ben would be starting for the Steelers, but it was too late. Out lineups have to be final by Thursday.

I wouldn’t be that bitter about the 10 point differential except for this:

He won by one point. ONE POINT!

I also lost to Roger by one point in week five. I am much more of a badass than my record of 3 – 7 allows.

Screw that.

So there you have it. No, I don’t care that people without cable can’t get Thursday Night Football. I don’t care that it is fascist and elitist. I don’t even care that I can’t manage to stay awake for an entire game. I am pissed because it forces me to make my final fantasy football lineup on a Thursday. Game time decisions become brutal. and I lose another game by one effing point.

Daunte the Lion

Daunte Culpepper signed a two year contract with the Detroit Lions.

I guess the big question is do I care?

If you read my personal blog at all you may have noticed that I went to the University of Central Florida. In fact, Daunte and I overlapped by one year. He was a freshman when I was a senior.

And now anybody that can do math knows how old I am. Excellent.

So the thing is I have been a huge Culpepper fan from way back. Coming from a school that had a relatively small football program at the time it was thrilling when Culpepper was drafted in the first round. I remember him playing in his first pre-season game with the Vikings. I actually used to root for the Vikings when they weren’t playing the Bucs just to root for Daunte. He was amazing. He was big and had a great arm and he could scramble with the best of them.

But then he started getting bad press and playing inconsistently. Then came the injuries. Then he ended up with the Dolphins and it just wasn’t any fun watching him play anymore.

So do I care that he was picked up by Detroit? Kind of. I guess. I want to be excited, but I’m not. Do Lions fans care? Do you care?
