Part of the Problem

When I asked Kemp to help me start a group blog where we would write about sports I envisioned a site that was funny most of the time but reflective when it was called for.

I don’t write a lot of serious posts. I try to leave that to the serious writers. I prefer to talk about stuff that makes me laugh but yesterday I ran across something that I didn’t think was funny at all.

I don’t think that anyone would deny the fact that there are more famous male athletes than female athletes. I am okay with that. Title IX and the evolution of our society are going to slowly even things out (I hope) eventually. I wasn’t terribly surprised when I had some trouble finding blog posts on the greatest female athletes of all time when I was doing research for this post on BlogHer.

Let me show you what DID surprise me:

No. I meant WNBA. And I meant it when I typed it here too.

Were you looking for information about why Mia Hamm is considered to be one of the greatest female soccer players? You could check it out on a lovely feature called… wait for it… profiles in poontang.

Do you need a picture of Anna Kournikova for your tennis post? I hope these will do because these are the first search hits.

Let’s compare it to the exact same shot of the first page of images for Roger Federer:

Why is he always fully dressed. He must not swim as much.

And if you are female fan of NASCAR this should make you very proud.

Wait – people aren’t taking her seriously? I wonder why?

So my friends, here is part of the problem. Now how do we even begin to fix it?

Madness

You know what rules about being a stay-at-home-Mom?

I mean besides not having to go to work?*

College basketball all day long.

March Madness is so much fun. Now if only I had been smart enough not to pick George Mason to go to the sweet 16…

* I consider it fair trade for all of the times I have been vomited on in the past three years.

It’s About Time

No offense, he had a good season last year and everything, but it is about time that Brett Favre retired.

Congratulations Brett. Hopefully you mean it.

Hopefully if you are Aaron Rodgers, anyway.

That’s gonna leave a mark…

It’s as if thousands of men weeped in pain, and then were silenced…

From the Chicago Cubs official site:

Outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle.

I’m sorry, I stopped reading after my legs slammed together…
