Look, I’m as big a Favre fan as the next guy. I dig how much he loves the game, how tough he is, and even his propensity to clothes his eyes and throw the damn ball into whichever jersey happens to be closest. During his heyday I was living in Minneapolis, and I loved hanging out with the rest of the Cheeseheads who needled the Vikings fans until they choked and sputtered on their lutefisk, because they knew deep down that if you replaced his offensive line with a stack of matchbooks and his receivers with tether-ball polls he could still find a way to beat them.
But the way the Packers have been sucking up to him the last couple years has become absolutely ridiculous, hasn’t it? He’s still good, but he ain’t what he used to be, and it’s starting to feel a lot like he’s entering the Joe-Montana-in-Kansas-City phase of his career. They must know this, but the Pack is still mortgaging as if he’s Optimus Prime and he’s just a couple energon-cubes short of kicking some major Decepitcon ass all over again.
So far this year we’ve already seen the following:
- Months of drama while Favre (and the media and everyone else) speculated about whether or not he’d return. Nothing distracting about that, is there?
- Mike Sherman fired, despite having only one losing season and replaced him with Favre’s old quarterback coach
- Aaron Rodgers will get yet another year to “develop” by carrying a clipboard, increasing his odds of joining Aaron Brooks and Matt Hasselback in the “if you want to play, leave Green Bay” derby
- Ignored some critical needs (like offensive line) to draft some defensive help, ’cause that’s what Favre wants
- Excused Favre from offseason workouts…again
You’ve just got to wonder what’s going to be left when the Favre-era finally ends in Green Bay. Where’s the premiere receiver? The running back that doesn’t go down when he gets a paper-cut? As much as I love the guy, the Pack would be better off thanking Favre for all he’s given them, and moving on. The longer they keep this marriage going, the uglier the divorce is going to be.

You beat me to it C. I was going to write up a post about how much I DON’T care about Brett Favre.
The man has really turned into a tool.
